Even worse, the people behind these bills aren’t the physicians but instead Wall Street private equity firms looking to turn a profit on the backs of unsuspecting patients.

Some physicians in Congress are looking to put a Band-Aid on the problem, and protect their bottom line, by pushing “baseball-style arbitration” legislation. Arbitration won’t solve the problem – but it will continue to enrich these physicians and the private equity firms behind them, while creating another level of bureaucracy that will enable Wall Street to continue to game the system at the expense of consumers.

Instead, Congress should support a commonsense solution to this problem that ends surprise billing, without greater government involvement or more profit for Wall Street. This “benchmarking” approach would protect consumers from predatory physicians and private equity titans, preserve the free market, and truly end the practice of surprise billing.

Tell Congress to say no to surprise bills and predatory physicians – and yes to a commonsense benchmark solution.
